When you first open the AV Player, the very first thing you need to do is set your directories. To do this, click on the Set Directories button on the right-hand column. A dialog box will open asking for a Primary Directory, Secondary Directory, CD Directory, and a Data Directory.
If you have Tiberium Dawn, you should set that directory to your primary directory. You don't need to enter your RA and TS directories here. The secondary directory is actually meant to point to a CD directory of TD on HD. The cd directory should be set to your primary cd drive. The data directory needs to be set to the directory your XCC utilities are in.
It is important to have these set correctly. The other XCC utilities access the information to find mix files and pal files.
When you have your directories set correctly, you will notice that when you open the program, it opens the scores.mix located in your primary directory.
To open a mix file, click on the Open Mix button on the right-hand column. A standard open file dialog will open to the primary directory. Simply double-click on the file name to open it, or click on the name and then the Open button.
Once you have a mix open, it is easy to play the sound file. Just double click it, or select it and hit the Play button on the right-hand column. You can play sounds from any of the command and conquer games.
You can also hit the Shuffle button on the right-hand column. This will play through the mix file sounds randomly.
Playing a movie file is just like playing a sound file. Just double click it, or select it and hit the Play button on the right-hand column. You can play movies from the Tiberium Dawn and Red Alert games. XCC AV Player does not currently play movies from the Tiberian Sun game. Keep checking back at the XCC site. A breakthrough could happen any day.
To extract a sound file to wav, select it, and click on the Extract button on the right-hand column. It will then ask you for a name, and convert it to a wav file.
To extract other files, you can use the Extract Raw function from the right-hand column, but it is best to use the XCC Mixer utility. That program can extract any of the files as is, or convert aud to wav, and shp to pcx.
